In 2022, our former president Patrick Albert resigned, Susan Brealey was elected president and Sylvia Hochuli OAM was elected vice-president of the Swiss Society of Victoria (SSV). Susan has been involved in the Swiss community since 1997 and Sylvia since 1968.
The SSV continues to:
– support Swiss in need of some assistance, financially or otherwise,
– to support events for mainly Swiss nationals who are older than 70 years and who enjoy gatherings / lunches at the Swiss Club of Victoria in Flinders Lane, or outings by bus to the country side. It is lovely to see how many of these people still speak their mother tongue Swiss German, French or Italian.
-give advice related to retirement villages and age care centres (on the basis of legal advice received),
-help with property maintenance chores and
-buy mobility and disability equipment designed for the elderly.
We also bring joy to some lonely, sick or injured Swiss with visits at home or in hospitals and by giving our time, small gifts or by sending cards.
It has been a pleasure to be the president of our charity and to work together with Sylvia Hochuli, who knows numerous Swiss in Victoria and Basil Jenkins, our treasurer. We can make a difference to people’s lives and hope that, in future, more people will talk to us and tell us about their or a friend’s life. We have an open ear and are only a phone call away Susan Brealey (0401170036) Sylvia Hochuli (0409968624) . We will definitely support the Swiss national day celebration in Ferntree Gully, Kings Park, on 5/6/23 as this event will promote Swiss culture and traditions and attract many Swiss families who come together
